What to expect during a nose job

General anesthesia will be administered to ensure your comfort. Careful incisions are made either across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils, or in the lining of your nostrils. These are known as the open technique or closed technique, respectively. After the incisions are made, cartilage is restructured or removed in order to reshape the nose. When the nose has been reshaped, the incisions will be closed and a nasal splint will be placed to add support while the nose heals.

What to expect after rhinoplasty

While there is little pain after surgery, for the first week, you will need to wear a nose splint. Expect some bruising around the eyes after surgery, which could last up to two weeks but can typically be camouflaged with makeup after one week. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about two to three weeks, after which normal activity can be resumed safely. The most common complaint is pressure due to swelling, which can make breathing difficult for about 3 weeks after the surgery. Facial swelling after a nose job is completely normal and follows every rhinoplasty procedure. Once the initial swelling subsides and the nasal splint is removed, the initial results will be visible about 2 weeks after surgery. It might take up to a year for the last traces of swelling to fully resolve and see the final contour of the nose.
