What causes acne?
Acne develops when sebum — an oily substance that lubricates your hair and skin — mixes with dead skin cells and clogs hair follicles. Typical signs are blackheads or whiteheads, pimples, oily skin, and possible scarring. Bacteria can trigger inflammation and infection, resulting in more severe acne. Bacteria along with a buildup of skin cells can cause eruptions, but so can a too-aggressive exfoliation or scrubbing regimen that tears the skin and allows bacteria in. Healthy skin thrives under balance and care, but that kind of routine can be difficult to enact when acne takes such a toll on your confidence.
